[GRID RULESET :: OFFICIAL FIGHT PROTOCOL]

GRID is the standardized competitive ruleset governing all ranked PHYRENA fights.

Design Intent
  • Continuous engagement over stalling.
  • Positional dominance over isolated actions.
  • Readable outcomes for spectators in real time.
  • Skill expression through class-based modifiers.
  • Competitive integrity across all matches.
Fight Structure
  • Match duration: 5 minutes (fixed).
  • Victory conditions: submission, +3 point lead, overtime, or referee decision.
  • Automatic victory is triggered at a 3-point lead.
  • Overtime occurs if scores are tied at the end of regulation.
Overtime Protocol
  • Each athlete selects: Back Control or Arm Lock (armbar).
  • 1 minute attack per athlete, alternating turns.
  • Winner determined by fastest submission or fastest escape.
  • If unresolved, referee decision is applied.
Scoring System
  • Points awarded only for measurable, controlled actions.
  • Actions must demonstrate control (≥ 3 seconds).
  • Intentional progression and visible impact are required.
  • Scoring categories include only submissions.
  • The Controller class scores by getting to the mount or back pins.
  • Points are intentionally sparse and meaningful.
Submission Criteria
  • Must create visible danger.
  • Must force a defensive reaction.
  • Must have realistic finishing potential.
  • Loose or non-threatening attempts do not score.
Class Interaction
  • Each athlete selects a class before the match.
  • Classes modify scoring weights and bonus triggers.
  • Classes do not affect match duration or win conditions.
  • Objective: alter strategy without compromising fairness.
Advantage & Penalties
  • Initiative and progression are rewarded.
  • Passivity and disengagement are penalized.
  • Minor penalty: +1 point awarded to opponent.
  • Triggers include stalling, fleeing, or repeated inactivity.
  • Repeated infractions escalate toward disqualification.
Reset Conditions
  • Out-of-bounds results in immediate reset.
  • Position restored based on last dominant control.
  • Referee determines initiative after reset.
Prohibited Actions
  • Immediate disqualification for critical violations.
  • Includes: spiking, eye gouging, biting, finger manipulation, cervical locks.
  • Striking of any kind is prohibited.
  • Verbal abuse or ignoring a tap results in disqualification.
  • Escaping submissions by fleeing the area is prohibited.
Referee Authority
  • Final authority on scoring and enforcement.
  • Determines resets and positional control.
  • Evaluates overtime outcomes when necessary.
  • All decisions follow GRID enforcement standards.
Seasonal Mutability
  • Rules may evolve between competitive seasons.
  • Season 0 defines the baseline protocol.
  • Adjustments limited to scoring values and class balance.
  • Core rules and structure remain unchanged.
Legacy & Rankings
  • Rankings persist across seasons.
  • Seasonal performance and all-time legacy are tracked separately.
  • System ensures long-term competitive continuity.
System Principle
  • No scoring without control.
  • No advantage without intent.
  • Points are sparse, deliberate, and high value.
  • Clarity and fairness take priority over complexity.
